Did the Marmotte last year.. would like to do it this year, but looks like there's other stuff on so might just be a case of attempting to combine a family holiday with a bike.. I've got one with S&S couplings. Try to do as many rides as I can and local club races and TTs too and cycle right way through the season this year (i essentially stopped after the Marmotte last year). Going to do a bit of running and might see if there's any masters Gaelic football team looking for players.

Cycling wise my first goal is to do my first 100 as soon as possible. Most I've done so far is 60. Hopefully I can build quickly and complete this first goal by early spring. Following that I want to try and average three decent rides a week with one being at least 50.

Running both Belfast & Newry marathons. One at the start and one at the end of May. Hoping to do at least 4 out of the 7 in the local half marathon season.

Swimming - work on my technique and do my first open water swim.

Two sprint distance & two olympic distance triathlons. A half Ironman distance event in the summer.

Holiday wise, my wife, 13 year old son & I are going to Germany, Holland & Denmark. Taking the bikes with us. Neither of them will cycle much but we should get something done.

Hopefully I'll remain injury free and will get all that completed and then start training for the summer 2011 goal, a full Ironman.

Character building... that's what I'm afraid of.

I holidayed in Iceland last year and there were plenty of people touring on bikes.

You will find it inspiring, a beautiful and sometimes bleak place. Also, with the collapse of the economy it is actually cheaper than the UK at the moment.

As Snorri says, do it.

@yellowfang my friend Pete Quaife did a tour of iceland last year - he's done a journal on crazyguy called 'north atlantic drift'. Definitely read it for inspiration. He writes really well.

For me, currently I have a week's tour of NW scotland the first week of April with tonnes of climbing in it, including the bealach na ba. I have an offroad (travelling ultralight on mtbs) scottish coast to coast planned for the summer but I'm still researching the route. Trying to find something east of Braemar that's decent and will take me to aberdeen. I might do an Ireland end to end as well, but we're trying to keep things cheap. Getting fit for the tours I've planned is what I'm going to do in between them.
