..or they got what they wanted, a reaction ;) no fun if they get ignored.
True, but a few others had already said that so I wanted to put an alternative viewpoint. ;)

Given the speed they disappeared, whilst they might feign bravado between themselves, I feel there's a chance that they'll have learned something valuable.

Given the surroundings, I'd be very very careful of doing anything untoward. There is a chance stuff like that can escalate very quickly-before you know it you're being chased down in a car.

Seriously, what would you have done if they hadn't run?

My intention was to ask why? Also point out all the stuff about look and listen before crossing the road. What i said was amended to the fact they ran away.

As long as I breathe, I attack.

Ignore them they will probably die young due to poor diet and lack of intelligence. I take satisfaction in that and carry on with my day.

Unfortunately chav's seem to have mastered reproduction pretty well so their genes live on .....As for your reaction; I've done similar myself and don't think it's an over reaction. Maybe they'll learn that being "brave" doesn't make much difference if getting hit by a bike, motorbike or car and actually should have a bit more respect

Bored disrespectful kids that are probably going to take some lumps growing up. I think I would have just given them the finger and kept on rolling.

But you were swearing when you went back, you were clearly wound up and I suspect asking them why might not have been so polite.

No need for you to swear too.

It’s an everyday occurrence that someone will call you names or wave rudely at you because you are on a bike, so why are you bothered by it?
It’s a prejudiced view, both on their part and on yours; you are no better than they are, by calling them derogatory names you stoop to their level, except you should know better.

I've only ever shouted at some kids once - these were late teens. Agroup of 4 or 5 were ambling across a main road 'deliberately' - 40mph limit, and I was coming down at considerable speed (about 35). Shouted 'f-ing move' and one of the lads still lunged at me despite me vering to the opposite side of the road. I didn't turn round and go back - just not worth it.

They were children.

Children fool around. I did so as a child. My children did so.

Whatever a child calls you (and at whatever volume) it may not be a good idea to shout back using coarse language.

These things happen. It was nothing. It was not the children who ratcheted up a nothing situation.

Your actions may be justifiable or mitigable, but I thought them wrong.

Unfortunately, kids these days know they 'hold all the cards'; if I'd have shouted something derogatory at an adult when I was their age, I'd have expected a thick ear or worse. If I'd have gone home and told my parents that someone had clipped me around the ear for being cheeky I'd have got another one from them!

These kids know that if anyone touches them in any way, shape or form, they report it and you end up in court! This is why there is no discipline in schools etc. Adults are too frightened of the potential consequences!

As much as you'd like to wipe the floor with these little scroats (probably as much as I would), it just ain't worth it!

You didn't over-react in my book, but just keep pedalling!

My words when they ran off was in response to that. I needed something quick to the point to show my displeasure and that's what i produced on the spot. It was going to be pussy's but prick and dicks linked more so i shouted that. My intention if they stayed was not to go in swearing and yelling blar blar blar. It was to ask simply why, whats the point and if this was anyone else or a biker you dont know whose under the helmet they may have well followed you and knocked you out.

I suppose you need to ask how they would have taken a few minutes worth of educational conversation had they stopped to listen to you. Would they have engaged in a meaningful discussion? Would they have benefited in any way shape or form? Would you have gone red faced and started spitting? Kids love that. The answer of course is, "are you serious?" It was hijinks. It was harmless, move on.
