What bike for commuting?

Hi everyone! I'm new here and looking for some advise on a bike
I mostly will ride it to work on weekdays (30 mins) and the odd weekend on a ride in a park. My range is 350-400£ but I don't know if what I will be doing (road cycling) for 20-30mins a day is worth that much. The ones I was looking at at halfords today were the boardman hybrid sport or boardman hybrid comp. any advise on the two would be helpful. Or do you think I need such a high range bike? I could save money for my holiday in the summer or something else and buy a 200£ one. Any recommendations for that range would also help. Thanks for taking the time to help.

If you're going to be using your bike daily, ~3-400 is probably the minimum to spend, although don't forget to factor in all the other bits (lights, lock, clothes, ...). The boardmans are generally well regarded and decent value. Does your employer do a cycle 2 work scheme? Are you a member of british cycling to get a 10% discount?

Buy a better bike, you'll be more inclined to ride it and it'll last longer than both a cheap bike and a holiday

I've got a Boardman MX comp. That would tick all the boxes, and with various discounts ( British cycling, Quidco, Cycle to work etc.) would be a bargain as well.

I'm not unfortunately, however I could easily sign up. My employer doesn't do anything like that

As @vickster says, you'll also get legal cover as well as the discount so it will pay for itself. Halfords often do a 15% discount over a few days so keep your eyes open and join BC before then.
