Disc brakes can be squeaky - on my Whyte they certainly squeal when it's wet...means the cars and peds can hear me coming, safety feature ;)

As Classic above, assuming you have bought the right size bike in the first place. If not you may never be comfortable

What components are deteriorating? How long have you had it? Do you maintain it properly (chain cleaning, lubing, rim cleaning, generally keeping it clear of crud, do you have proper mudguards if riding in all weathers)

To answer some questions ...

I don't want a red bike - who does?
Yes, I have mudguards and clean/lube my bike.
The chainset is also deteriorating - some teeth are very worn.
Yes it's the right size bike for me.
The Whyte does look a good bike buit I'm also tempted by: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-500-se-road-bike-black-id_8306187.html

How many miles have you done? Have you changed the chain?

Red bikes, lush, black and grey bikes, gash

If looking to spend £1000 on a flat bar why are you looking at a £400 triban? That will certainly need new wheels sooner rather than later, the other parts will wear out sooner rather than later too (like any bike)

EDIT - A £330 roadbike...with a no name Shimano chainset

when you say the teeth are very worn, how worn?

photos?

again, surprised if that spec chainset would wear out so easily.
Do we know if it was that quickly, he might have done 10000 miles in all weathers with no chain replacement?

I've never worn anything out on a bike...probably cos I don't keep them for long enough

I'm not an expert on bikes, but I think you should definitely take a look at a few of ROUX's bike ranges:

With the budget that you have you'd easily be able to find something for yourself!

You have made 2 posts since you joined the forum on 28 Jan 15, both promoting the bikes you linked to above.
Anyone might think you are somehow connected with said company!
