I use a drift ghost xl on It's reasonably water resistant, works in a dashcam mode (overwrite old footage) and has a time stamp.

The cons are it's crap at warning you about low battery, it just switches off! So you should remember to check the battery meter if it's been a few days since charge.

A killer cycle camera for me would have a gps display - it's much easier to pinpoint where an incident happened when reviewing footage.

I use one of the Go Pro knockoffs and it seems ok (obviously not as good as a GoPro etc); the sound quality is not the best but I use it in its waterproof case.

I like the look of those, not too expensive either.

I've a chilli camera for my Sunday bike rides. Good for catching weird incidents - like people walking their dogs from their car, seeing yet another tractor parade, drafting a traction engine, seeing a police chase etc etc.
Battery life is over 5 hours so good enough for commuting.
Image quality isn't brilliant but it will catch number plates for close passes or other stupid driving.

No use at night but are any bike cameras ?

Go Pros always seem to do well in low light conditions from what Ive seen, though the compromise is battery and the system to process the videos.

the problem with the Insta cams as a cycling dash cam is battery life, ok its the highest quality you can record but they themselves only rate it at 75mins. most commutes are going to be in the roughly 30min range, 1hr per day, thats you having to recharge every day just to keep on top of it. plus processing of the files.

whereas Cycliq, certainly the 12 is nearer 10 hrs, without the light, more like half that for the 6, though weirdly the light uses less power than the 12. whilst the lights are handy, Id never rely on them as a sole light solution. But the audio beeps the cams give you, give you an idea of how battery life is going.

and certainly I find the cycliq setup to be far more fit and go than most cam solutions, which is ideal for commuting.

whilst it does have its flaws, theyre expensive, the lenses are far too easy to scratch, they can be prone to one off failures (suggesting QC isnt that great on them), though its worth highlighting where you place the 6, it gets an enourmous amount of spray, grit and grime chucked at it in a typical British weather environment, its not surprising they go a bit wrong sometimes.

and like Garmin they dont really have many competitors. there are lots of lower cost cameras out there but Ive always found the video quality worse, battery life is worse, the eco system of handling the camera, the files it produces and so on, is worse.
