What can one shoot?

I assume we are referring to half baked defences as being control of vermin etc as I could not agree that all people who shoot things lack humanity. I personally don't but if someone shoots a rabbit and eats it or a pheasant etc then I think you could argue that they actually understand where meat comes from in a morally better way than the supermarket carnivore who is happy to eat the product without thinking about its origins.

I don't see the problem with shooting something that you later plan to eat, as long as you dispatch it humanely (i.e. are a good shot!). I do have a problem with shooting for fun. I'm ambivelent about shooting for pest control - I think an air gun is a much kinder way to kill a rat than poisoning, but I'd question whether the rats are doing sufficient harm to warrant "controlling" in many situations.

Vegetarian actually. I feel remorse over everything I have accidentally killed.

I agree, especially given the conditions intensively farmed animals are kept in (not a veggie buy the way but I do always buy British and prefer to buy from butchers and farm shops).
