What did I do wrong?

Hello there.

I did the lawn myself about three weeks ago & it’s looking like my head, bald. Did I do something wrong?
How do I correct it & make it all green? Water it every alternate day. Do I re-seed & top soil again? Did I go too deep? Confusing the life out of me.

Also, lot of weed + mushrooms keep growing. Have to remove them every week or so. I wanted to apply weed killer but I read somewhere that one needs to wait for 6 months?

attached some pictures of things I’m trying to grow & succeeded a bit.

cheers.

ps : need suggestions on all year bloomers that will make the garden a bit more colourful.

Ours is very yellow/brown, but we have a hose pipe ban as well, so will have to save it for a rainy day.

The bald patches, I would waterlog them to soften the topsoil, then rake up the surface to a good inch depth. Then plant more grass seed and press it in gently. You'll have to avoid doing this in direct sunlight if you're in the UK right now. You could probably do it in the evening and then throw some shade on it all day for the next few weeks.

I always make sure the cut isn't too close during the sunny weather - my belief is that leaving it a little longer will retain what moisture there is. I may be entirely incorrect! I'd really like to know how to get rid of ants. We have an anthill I've tried to treat by putting down ant killers, boiling water etc. I now understand if poisons are taken into the nest, the colony splits (thus making another hill in the garden) as a precaution. I don't want the whole lawn to be one big anthill. WHAT CAN I DO?

£9.00 from Waterstones. Straightforward and nearly always successful.

Thank you. Saved the £9.

Thank you. I’m Essex based. Will raid the local B&Q for some shades. Should I do (reseed) it now or wait until August?

I haven’t cut it yet & also zero knowledge on getting rid of Ant hill either.

Was trying to grow the bald patches before I mow. Not getting the time after work to re-seed & the sun ain’t helping.

I had this a few years ago and I put some ant killer powder ina big circle all around the nest

and then some on the nest itself

plus some along the door way into the house

That seemed to do it

I've tried all I can find - including a DIY potion of Boric acid and honey. That seems to have stopped the hill growing, but I fear they have migrated a few feet. I guess my experience goes to prove how ants have been here many more millions of years than humans - and probably outlive humanity ^_^
