Well Duh......

Then I could sell it and buy :
A new road bike for me (van Nicholas Mistral would be nice),
a new road bike for the missus
and a tag along for youngest child.

No point having a £6000 bike and 60p legs - as so many sportive riders on Sunday proved.

There's every point, as you'll discover if you ever have £6k to spend on a bike.

One of the benefits of having a cheap(er) bike is the feeling of superiority it can generate.

One of the highlights of the cheshire cat for me yesterday was riding my somewhat battered Trek past the bloke in full Rapha kit pushing his imaculate Pinarello Prince up wincle......

Wasn't the yellow and red one was it.........

Some serious kit out there on Sunday - one rider had some mega expensive lightweight's on his bike - why..the roads were terrible...

I dispatched lots of carbon uberbikes on my 19 year old uberbike......on Sunday... had a guy on a Parlee  say how nice my bike was....

Back when I had a serious interest in photography, i knew hobbyists who had incredibly expensive, professional quality equipment.

I was chatting to one about it, and his take on it was that if he still took bad stuff, at least he knew for sure that it was him who had to get better, not that he needed to get better lenses, for example. the big plus for him was the removal of any excuses he might make for himself. Maybe there's a similar thing with the uberbike riders?

The Prince I passed was a red and black one, with some pretty deep rim aero wheels.

Still at least it must have been nice and light to push

Still not sure I could justify spending more than 2k on a bike even given relatively unlimited funds.

I get the distinct impression that a lot of the riders on hyper-bikes are simply playing the same "look at me, I have considerably more money than you" game.

Nothing against those who choose to do that, but it's not something that interests me and to be honest I'd just feel silly. I'd much rather have something "nice" but more in line with my level of ability.

It's a funny one this isn't it because you're instantly shown up if you've a fancy bike but no leg power, I wonder why you'd do it - I think you need to be aware of your own bikeability. It's not like having tons of cash and buying a fancy Eytalian sports car - anyone can drive one at 150 mph ... probably.

That's what I like about my BeOne build, though it is a high spec bike & looks like a purposeful race bike the only thing that stands out as real high-end bling is the Controltech Mono stem/bar.

The whole 'all the gear and no idea' thing is always going to be around, i say let people buy expensive bikes if they can/want. There's nothing wrong with it, it is quite nice when you overtake someone on a bike thats worth 10 times your own though

Not really what I was saying in my own clumsy fashion and it wasn't directed at anyone...except maybe me.

Sorry chap - I came over a bit cross there - wasn't really directed at you.

Anyway I must get on now, I'm just earning enough money to buy another Colnago. I'm hoping to break 10mph at the weekend.

The same thing happens in all walks of life. I see kids who bring £1000 guitars to lessons when they have been playing for a few months. Nowt wrong with it, its nice to have nice stuff, and if you feel good, you'll do better - ride more? get fitter? grow them stong legs?
