The chainrings need replacing on my Sirrus and it seems to me that it will be cheaper to replace the whole crankset. I can get an Alivio for about $50 on ebay but I don't know what to buy.
Will the Alivio T4010 9-Speed 170mm 26/36/48t Octalink Crankset fit?
And what tools will I need? And why did everything just get big?

More likely to be a square taper?
- remove one of the bolts and check - just need a large allen key for this step

Do all three rings need replacing? It's always difficult to be sure from a photo but it looks from that as though you could get away with just replacing the middle one for the time being.

I don't have an allen key large enough, dammit!
So, Allen keys, crank puller, chain splitter.....

I don't know very much about this stuff, maybe I'll just change the middle ring as suggested by RP.

Not sure if you need an 8mm or 10 mm, but try with two keys together. Two 5mm's or a 5mm+3MM.
Won't get quite the same leverage, but it should work.
Put 2 keys in together?
