What do you do with fallen leaves in garden?

I hadn't raked up fallen leaves until today as there were still a lot of the tree and so would only have to do it again. I really hoped the wind would blow all of them into a neat pile for me to just bag or something.

Half the leaves have been put into bin liners & I was going to make holes in them & put behind the shed over the winter. A few have been spread over the poor soil in my front garden. Is that a good thing to do?

I think leaf mould generally takes quite a long time to break down (or have I got that mixed up with other stuff), but that it does break down to form a fine compost.

Me I just mix them in with my regular compost or pile them in my green recycling bin.

Leaves take a long time to compost in bags - I use a large builders sack (the type they carry sand in ) and then mix the leaves with rotting kitchen waste(non-meat) and then hope that the red brandling worms find it as a home.

You can use Garotta as an agent to decomposition or have a discrete pee and dilute it in a gallon of water and pour that over it- it won't smell!

The leaves in the garden will be ok unless you have a veg plot - in which case I'd clear them as they attract slugs.

Run through them like a 5 year old

That brings back memories - I grew up near Burnham Beeches and loved running into the hollows which could be several feet deep in beech leaves. I remember my Dad deciding that he wanted a bit of leaf mould for the garden and bringing some home... the following couple of years we had beech trees sprouting through the borders!!!

You can buy an accelerant for making compost, but I don't know how well it works on leaves.

i like to get a leaf blower, and blow them off the trees and into the neighbours garden whilst they are out

Put them back where palinurus? on the trees?

I knew Jane would say she throws them away! She likes everything neat and tidy. Come and tidy up my garden Jane.

No I like to put as many as I can on the beds, to provide a little more nutrients to the soil, if that's possible.

Love that place  Childhood memories for me too... I learned to swim in the open air pool there  Anyway, leaves.... erm... rake em up and burn 'em, or simply leave them where they are.
