It was suggested that when I stripped my bike down for restoration, that I start a post where steel bike owners can record the weight of their frame and forks for others interested in such things.

Could you please add the weight of your totally stripped down frames and forks in pounds, grams, or both. Also feel free to add the weight of your bike when rebuilt.

To start the ball rolling here's my 1980s Peugeot Premiere, with Carbolite 103 tubing

(size 60cm)

Frame 2530g /5.58lb
Forks 850g. / 1.87lb
Frame and forks 3380g / 7.45lb

I would be interested to see how my Carbo(not so)lite 103 tubing compares to some other well known brands like:
Peugeot HLE
Reynolds 501
Reynolds 531
Reynolds 531c
I suspect each will lighter in descending order. Of course this depends on the quality of the steel used in the stays and forks.

At 7.45lb for the frame and forks, I was pleasantly surprised with my 60cm frame.

I don't usually bother weighing the fork, but my medium 531 double-butted frames vary from 4lb 2oz (a 21.5" 531 Professional track frame) to 4lb 10oz (a 23.5" Harry Quinn sports bike frame). I have a 531 main tubes-only, plain gauge, 22.5" Bob Griffin that is 5lb 2oz.

I have a pre-war clubman frame in unknown tubing, possibly A&P Kromo, which is also 4lb 2oz.

The Carbolite is relatively heavy. It will be a weaker alloy than the 531 plain gauge, so they need more of it.

Just been reading up on the Peugeot HLE tubing. Its higher strength to weight ratio allowed Peugeot to build frames approximately 8% lighter than their Carbolite 103 tubed frames.

That gives a 60cm HLE frame and fork an approximate weight of 3110g or 6.87lb (about half a pound difference). Reynolds 501 territory?
