In the illustrious circles I once moved in 'cat' was short for catmatic being the opposite of dogmatic. I can't think of an example of the way it was used just that if dogmatic was a fixed idea then catmatic was a far out alternative. I am glad that surveillance was not as widespread then as now especially as I never inhaled.
