Can anyone give me ideas what to eat and drink when doing my longer bike rides? At the moment i am eating powerbars and using lucozade sport in one drinks bottle and water in the other drinks bottle.
I was wondering if anyone had any cheaper alternatives that mean i don't run out of energy miles from home.

'Baker Boys' fruit flapjacks (2 packs of 5 for £2 in Asda). Bananas. Soreen Loaf sliced up and buttered and put back in its wrapper.

I'd ditch the lucozade sport and swap it for some hydration tablets + water eg. Nuun, High 5 etc. Get from Wiggle or Chain Reaction - works out at 30-40p a bottle max.

I use plain high 5 and add a flavour in my bottle, and make the flap jack ,you can add what you like ,I use goji berries dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds, malt loaf is a good source of energy if you like it ! And jelly babies are a good snack

fig rolls. And I've just made a batch of honey flapjacks - from >>>this<<< site
Though more recently I've been sampling various insects and the occasional taster of horse poop - which is all free or course!

+1 for making your own flapjack/cereal bars, I add dried cranberries, apricot, raisins and sultanas and add a range of different seeds. Hugh Fernley-Wotsit gives a good base recipe and you can change it to taste; http://www.channel4.com/4food/recip...ingstall/honey-and-peanut-butter-booster-bars

take a packed lunch... a couple of butties, bag of crisps and maybe a penguin (the bar, don't raid the zoo)... a flask of tea goes down well too

Cheaper than lucozade sport, fill your bottles with 1/3 orange juice (tropicana type stuff) 2/3 water and a small pinch of sea salt.
