What era bike is this?

Hi all...just discovered an old photo allegedly of my Grandfather riding ..or at least posing!!
We're trying to date the photo has anyone idea what type of machine it is or what era are we looking at?

Looks reminiscent of the Pashley Guvnor. Rod brakes suggest 50s or earlier AFAIK. I can't make out much more. Can you post a higher quality scan of the bike bit?

Can you verify the era by his age? He looks about 25 on the photo. Could be older, but we have some similar photos and they all look older by today's appearances. How old would he be in1910?

I am 67 and my grandfather would only have been about 14 in 1910. May be your great grandfather?

Rod brakes suggest 50s or earlier AFAIK.
The rod brake is pressing onto the top of the tyre, rather than pulling up on the rim. I think this must be well before the 50s. I assume this would only be done with solid tyres (but I do not know this). I think solid tyres would have disappeared very early in the 1900s. Maybe someone could date it from that?
