It's probably real; you can get whole roast chickens in a can these days

Back when Terry Wogan was presenting the Radio 2 breakfast show, they had listeners ringing in saying what was in the can & the sell/use by date of the oldest tin they possessed in their cupboards, one listener won with a whole roast chicken in a can, that his dad had acquired & brought home when demobbed at the end of WW2!

You could get whole chickens in cans in the 1970s, except they weren't roast they were boiled. They were covered in jelly as well.
