What about the fact it's not the amount of damage money it's the principle

ime no one ever says "It's not the money, it's the principle" when non-trivial amounts of money are involved. They are up front honest and open about it being about the money.

A dink, and its repair, is trivial, relative to the value of what folk call a 'nice car'. The damage to the OP's car is not a car park dink.
