Most road bikes would be ok on grit/gravel providing they have decent tyres. I have a hybrid and regret, buying it.

I have a carbon roadie now with 23mm tyres and take it happily on such tracks. Never use the hybrid.. But will sell and buy a cyclocross for commuting in bad weather/rougher tracks.

I have the cube agree GTC race carbon and i weigh over 15st and afraid that the gravel etc will damage the bike, not sure your familiar with the camel trail but that's where i'll be doing my riding mainly from now on?

I'm thinking of getting a boardman CX for such expeditions  35mm tyres as well. Will prob be a great commuter. Seem very popular on here
