I met up with my triathlete friend and she described the race to me. Sorry to report she only mentioned the ones who blew up.
I can understand that. The swim-bikers get a disproportionate amount of the broadcast coverage anyway, and then when they blow up by running faster than they're capable it's 'drama'. If a 'runner' blows up a few places back in the field it's 'ah well, btw so-and-so has retired/DNFd; so what' and maybe a five second view of their stop/demise.
Anyway we're all (family) going out in November to cheer her on in the 'no carbs before Marbs' Marbella 70.3 world champs. She'd been second in that both the last two years too (Finland and New Zealand). Has a great chance, possibly enhanced by heat injury recovery protocols/withdrawals.
