I was riding home (South London) a little while ago this afternoon when I was assaulted by an X5 driver. This is the second time it's happened to me this year. Back in the summer I had a driver of an X5 pull over, get out of his vehicle and push and kick me over (while I was stationary on my bike) because I said he was a bad driver after he deliberately (IMO) tried to run me into some parked cars. I found this event a bit pathetic and laughed it off, even though a friend said I should have reported him for assault.
This evening riding home from work I was at a crossroad junction, controlled by lights, signalling and moving to turn right. I was in the cycle advance junction box and moved to the middle to wait for oncoming traffic to pass so I could turn right. The car behind me pushed me from behind into the oncoming traffic. He then moved to undertake me pushing me and my bike and as he went past he opened his door onto me sending me flying. I didn't get the reg number but saw it was a black X5 (again!) but a different one to before as this one had blacked out windows. He then speed off leaving me in the middle of the road scrambling to get me and my bike out of the way of the traffic which started to move off again. No one stopped to ask if I was ok. Not one person. A pedestrian came over and I asked if they got his reg number, but they said they were "in too much of a rush to get involved".
I carried on home and passed a parked up police car 3 minutes later. I gave the cops all the details and they got onto HQ to look at cctv to pick up the X5, but nothing.
Moral to this story? ALWAYS try to get a reg number because no one else will. Thanks for listening, I'm off to nurse my bruised bottom.
