Don't know how cold it was but my girlfriend had the romantic idea to see a deer's breath on a cold, crisp morning so we set off to Richmond Park. Anyhow, we got there and and could just make out the shape of a deer or two looming from the surprise 7am freezing fog, we think they were deer anyway . By this point my thumbs and fingers were in the early, most painful stages of frostbite. Luckily, said partner was wearing mitts and after a fair amount of twining from me agreed it'd be better all round if I were to have them for the duration.

It's never too cold to cycle if your partner has the right gear and you're shameless enough to beg.

I've switched from hoodie to leather jacket recently and I'm a bit too toasty if anything now. Still cycle if there is ice, just extra careful. It's hard to explain how much I hate taking the bus!

In middle age and less able to go 'boing' when I fall off, I think 0 celcius is a degree or two too cold for me.

In days of yore, I was a frequent winter commuter in Sarajevo well down to -10 C on early-morning rides to the IEBL. But... I was usually riding on fresh snow and there was little traffic.

Even as a young man, I'm not sure I'd have done that here with our traffic volumes.

I would estimate the lowest temperature I would cycle in is below the lowest it can get in my part of the UK (at the times I commute anyway).

Worst bit is coming home in the evening, mostly downhill or flat for nearly three miles so fast going with low effort, ideal conditions for the fingers to get painfully cold even with decent winter gloves.

Last night it was -27C. My next shift is Wednesday night and their calling for -30C, so I'll soon find out if that will break me.it won't be fun, but what doesn't kill me will only make me stronger.

37F includes safety margin for our frost hollows.

Seen and experienced too many bad falls on ice. Better to lose a few days in the saddle to be sure of enjoying the thaw.

There is no lowest temp, but with low temps comes ice and I do not cycle when ice is on the roads. With the right kit and correct layers I dont think the cold is an issue for me but ice defo is.

I have been reliably informed by a Canadian friend that they do not exercise their horses in temperatures below -18c as it causes lung damage.

As an asthmatic I can believe this. This is why I wear a balaclava when temps get near or below 0c.
