What is the maximum Tyre size for Ridley Fenix SLA 105

Hi folks,

Does anyone know what's the maximum width tyre i can put on above bike? I have only placed an order couple of days ago & haven't received it yet. Although I know it's an endurance bike but my plan is to use it more as a gravel bike. According to the Ridley website max is 28mm as it comes standard with 25mm tyres. I think if I could squeeze 32mm gravel tyres then it would do the trick!! Therefore just wanted to pick your brains.

As no one else has jumped in with an answer here are my thoughts. Going larger on tyre size is often just trying them . I tried 28 mm tyres on a close clearance frame , that didn’t work. But as I had them “ in stock” there wasn’t a cost involved.
I am puzzled as this is a bike you don’t already own and you want a gravel bike ,Why not buy a gravel bike in the first place.

Yes you’re right in saying that it’s a case of trial and error…as far buying a gravel bike instead, actually I do own two already. Plan is to sell one of them to make room for it and have the other one as backup. Appreciate your input. Thanks

All is revealed, you want to limit your fleet to 2 bikes , but ideally the new bike should be adaptable/ multi use . Hope It works out .

I'm about to start building up an SL version of this frame as a replacement winter bike, otherwise I'd have bought the carbon Ultegra version that was posted in the Bargain thread.

It looks like a standard frame takes 28mm, the SL version can take 30mm. I'll probably be running 26-28mm tyres.

The thread discussing it on Hotukdeals where I saw it had several people saying 28s.
Other posts on that thread however were mentioning the geometry was a lot more aggressive than the "endurance" label might suggest.

28mm for gravel riding? Do you have experience of this setup? Personally I wouldn't go below 35mm.

On one of my bikes - i’ve got and have used (On various tracks / trails etc) 38mm. I too wouldn’t want to go very much smaller volume wise. Not in order to be able to ride at a sensible speed, over semi off-road terrain and not do any damage to machine; or myself.

I’m absolutely sure you can do it on 28mm. But with so many bike, wheel, tyre and combos - why would you contemplate ‘struggling’ or making do ?

To be honest it was more for a comfy ride than gravel. I ride more often along the canal path which has some small sections so it’s not much of a gravel riding as such . It’s just that I have 700x45c tyres on one of my gravel bike and therefore ride is plush.
I think I have confused the matters by how I phrased my question. It should have been more about comfort factor from switching from 25mm to a bigger tyres instead of gravel riding.
