I'd love to know when LOL changed from 'Lots Of Love' to 'Laugh Out Loud'

I'm in my fifties and I'd never heard of it ever being used as lots of love until a few years ago, but I heard about laugh out loud back in the 90s. Either on usenet or text , as I got my first mobile phone about that time.

I think that the kids are onto something with their text-speak reduction of the number of letters within words. It's a shame that their grammar is suffering, though.

Well I'm a decade older and it was frequently used on letters (remember them) or Postcards to family members or loved ones instead of 'Yours Sincerely' or the like........................It was in a slightly different format though as in LoL, not all capltals
