26 mile round trip. takes anything from 50 minutes to an hour+ depending on the traffic. Ride a Kona Dew hybrid. Mostly downhill on the way to work.. so long drag uphill most the way home.
Do the commute 5 days a week, rain, shine, snow.. whatever weather.. sooooo look forward to waking up in the mornings and getting on the bike. Don't like the commute home too much at the moment as i'm not one for enjoying cycling in the dark.. but... the days are getting longer and the evenings are lighter..

Mine's 10 miles round trip - used to think it was too much, now I think I'd like to add a couple of miles esp when the weather gets better. 5 days a week, to the point that I've lost 1st dibs on the car...

Main problem is that half of it is on a dual carriageway (From Filton to Aztec West in Bristol) so I have to keep my wits about me.

wigsie .. lol @ spreadsheet

as per other thread, i am getting my replacement cycle toady [a ridgeback flight 01 from evans for 299 in the sale], so not a huge amount of cash..
also train idea for some of the journey is a good idea but the cost of the trains aint really worth it, might aswell ride it

Ha ha I know a spreadsheet to justify it is very anal but the mrs needed to 'see' just how much the bikes will help with a new baby on the way, etc etc me jsut saying i want a bike was ok but i got the "whats wrong with a £100 special from Halfords?"

Was actually quite interesting in a crap nerdy way!

Hmmmpppphhh, my spreadsheet has 4 tabs:-
1. cycling diary records my distance and time, am/pm, daily total, average speed. Also has my starting weight and then a weigh in point for every 4 weeks. This is all summarised on a table at the top to give me weekly and monthly figures.
2. general info - includes distances for various routes, specs on bikes, rail fares and gearing ratio tables.
3. To Do - a list of all the ideas for bikes/new kit that come to me and then the results of my web searches re reviews and suggestions for said stuff. Then I go over this list with bike mechanic to check feasability.
4. My Spend - a list of all purchases, seperated by general/bike1/bike2 and a corresponding list of savings made re fares and golf kit sold to fund cycling. Sadly the cycle spend still vastly outweighs the savings and golf sales. But at least my wife sees I'm trying:biggrin:

So I call your anal and raise you:biggrin:

Varies according to the season. In winter, I keep it as short as possible - about 10 mile round trip - not just because of the weather, but because to go out earlier means longer in the dark, and I hate spending extra time avoiding potholes and road crud in the dark, even with decent lights. In the lighter months, anything up to 30 miles round trip (and at least once a year, I do a week of 40 mile round trips).

Well I picked up my new cycle from Evans West End store yesterday, and I gotta say the guy who I dealt with (Jamie) was just excellent, made the whole transaction easy and he was just so helpfull, chucked in a rear mud guard and spare inner tube for free . Cycle is here at work smiling at me  I will come to work tomorrow on the train with my cycling gear (looking like a right daffodil  lol) and then cycle it home... I can't wait :biggrin::biggrin:

Touche Macca! thats sounds amazing, I am in at work at the moment and I am rearranging my schedule to work on such a document.

I will not be putting a My Spend section in mine! the wife see's the "actual cost" of a bottle cage at being more than a months supply of nappies and she may do something a little mental! and I cant afford to keep spending if I get divorced!

I will be back once I have created my masterpiece!

Only 5.0 each way for me. 25 mins there (a few small hills there), 30 mins on the way back (down hill but the wind is nearly aways blowing against me, I think thats why the airfield was put there!). Also on an MTB with knobblies (I can feel them sucking the road, great for these icy conditions though!) - Road bike coming soon.

Hopefully moving and so the commute will be 10 each way which is better. Also plenty of scope for summer detours .

Home Woodbridge way I assume ? It always seems to be blowing a gale past Rendlesham but then it is very open over there.

Yes the office is on the old USAF base, which either seems to be windy or foggy! On the good days, the Spitfire goes up and is a complete distraction!
