Just picked fresh of our own tree, and it looks like someone has beaten me to it.

Well I ate around the hole and didn't find the culprit, and it tasted fabulous.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Wasp.. wasps love apples, and when they ripen, wasps tend to swarm around apples, especially when they fall on the ground, and if the apples start to ferment then the wasps look a bit tipsy.:laugh:
 
I pick up windfalls of a really nice apple tree to make apple crumble. You can just slice around the weevilly bits. If there are two weevil holes in an apple I just slice off the larger one.

Maybe nothing, birds peck at apples ...used to be a common reason to reject apples in a former packing factory I worked in.
