What locks do you guys use when your bikes are left outside your work/uni when commuting?
I've got a bronze standard (1 min protection ;) ) Squire D Lock, and squire cable lock for my wheels. I want something a bit more secure, so what do you guys use.

I use a bag all of the time when commuting, so will transport it that way.

MasterLock Street Fortum. It's got a Gold rating and it only cost £22 on-line somewhere. A word of warning. The clamp that stashes the lock to the bike frame is a bit feeble. If you hit a bump, the lock sometimes jumps out onto the tarmac... a bit dangerous. I keep it in a pannier or bag now.

I hope this helps.

A heavy Squire chain lock. However, since someone tried to saw through it with a power tool, I will bring my bike in the office in future. It did its job though.

Mine's in a secure carpark at work but my favourite trick when leaving it elsewhere is to take the quick release pedals with me. That way if anyone nicks the bike they won't be making a quick getaway.

Pair of Abus Granit X54s depending on bike / trike often both in some areas backed up with either a Kryptonite Cable with Yale lock or a pair of MasterLock StreetCuffs.

I have also fitted a floor anchor into my work locker

Slightly OT - I gave up with these as they kept on detaching!

Trying to put your foot down at traffic lights with a pedal attached to it - dodgy to say the least!

They came with the bike. I did have a problem with the left one detatching but since I swapped the half toeclips for powergrips it's not happened. My huge walking shoes must have been catching the release.

I use a fairly crappy brandless cable lock, but then we do have underground swipe card only restricted access to the bike cage at work. If someone can get into that without being spotted chances are they can get through the locks too. Especially considering the footfall through the place.

Most people leave their bikes unlocked (inside the cage). I only lock mine to stop it being knocked over - not that it matters its so tatty anyway.

For my hybrid I have a bronx 12mm cable lock.

For the audax I have 3 15inch lengths of 12mm hex chain, 3 Masterlock laminated steel padlocks. Weighs as much as 1 4ft and 1 padlock, but means I can get the bike tight to railings/sheffields only but locked at 3 points. Fortunately, I have a secure parking space at the office.

A Magnum Sold Secure Gold D lock. Never used the frame mount, what I did when I had a pannier rack fitted was I'd bungy it to the top of the pannier rack. Now I'm using a DHB rucsac I put the "D" part in 1 mesh pocket, secured by the compression strap, and the lock part in the other mesh pocket.

When I'm on the other work site they have bike cages, so I also carry a small squire padlock that claims to be high security but doesn't have a sold secure (not that I know of anyway).

Ok... I build in 'locking up time' into my commute...ahem - Sh4rky will verify the unlock time from a recent ride to work event...:blush::blush::blush:

OK....

Usually a NY Fagetit mini D (max security) with a V Heavy Gold Chain lock (10lbs weight) and a cable lock through saddle...

The chain stays at base......

Depending on site.....the NY Mini Fag D, a Magnum Gold D, Abus Bordo (flexy solid bar thing) and the cable lock for the saddle....... slightly less dodgy (i.e. secure), the Magnum D isn't used.....

Weight in rucksack - HEAVY...... ultra gravity training...........

Paranoid..yes..... - Bike is insured, but inconvenience factor means... sod off scum...

PS the NY Fag Mini is awesome, especially if you can get it to go through rear end and wheel and a sheffield stand......a very tight fit on a road bike..., but very hard to crack.

I insure through CIS...and I've never had a bike half inched...... so far....... (TOUCH WOOD)......

CIS are very good, household up to £1k for a bike...accidental as well (i.e. some bugger wrote one bike off - they paid, kids smashed a camera..sorted....) and you can take specific items....i.e. expensive road bikes or the old engagement ring... very good...

I am paranoid, even though my new Fixed is the work horse, and it can be replaced (i.e. it's a new bike) (not like my other bikes - age) - I'd go nuts.........
