I was in "The Biggest McDonalds in the World!!" (one of several I think) in Florida years ago. A huge mom and dad and a couple of kids waddled in. The fat dad went up to the counter and the tillboy asked him what he wanted. He ordered two Big Mac meals (go large) and two double cheeseburgers. Then he turned to his family and asked them what they wanted.

Back in the late 80's I used to have a regular working lunch of:
Big Mac meal with large fries and large banana milkshake
Quarter pounder with cheese
Filet of fish
Apple pie
I was consistantly less then 9st and had a 28" waist.

I remember back in 1999 I had a working lunch that was a KFC 10 piece bargain bucket, all the coleslaw, beans, the whole Venetta ice cream and 1.5 litres of coke.
I was only a little heavier then 9st then with a 30" waist.

That was my last silly sized meal and I have been eating much more reasonable portions since then but I am now 13st 6lb and I have a 34" waist.

What must they think of us? What I heard from foreigners (mixture of Chinese, Brazilian & German) about us was that collectively we:

1) Don't wash
2) The women are horrible and Polish women think they are slags
3) State education is at least 2 years behind their's - eg year 10 over here is equivalent to year 7/8 over there - that from a German lady who teaches here in Bristol - and I got the impression she was trying to be diplomatic.

A Swedish girl who was a bit miffed to have to come to the UK to find work as a photographer wouldn't say why she didn't particularly like us, but did say that she "couldn't wait to get back to Sweden to be with the beautiful people"...

Truth hurts?

I remember an Albanian taxi driver who was very surprised that my English boyfriend had a job. His experience of British men was that they all signed on and sat around.

Not relating to the volume of food eaten, but the manners of the diners struck me while on holidays over the last few years...and it's not the British that look worst.
Last year for instance, i was in a fully inclusive hotel in Egypt. Come dinner time, its the Italians, Germans, Russians...virtually every nationality except the British that'd push straight to the front of the queue. It took an English fella to bellow at the top of his voice to everyone...'there's a bloody queue here you know'

It embarrassed quite a few into getting into some sort of order. Fair play to the man.

Where manners are concerned, the brits dont look too bad in my eyes.

On the subject matter, we've got a Indian buffet style resturaunt we visit occasionally...yes, there are some serious overweighters in there. The owners must squirm when they see how much some people can eat. Bugger i've got an appetite, but being slim, i just can't eat that much at once.
