It worked !!
Using a spare Smart headlamp holder, drilled a 1/4" hole through it and countersunk from the back to take a counter sunk 1/4" BSW bolt (1" overall length). So the theory is sound, it's a bugger that the camera is a film camera and far too heavy anyway, looks like a mini digi camera is on the Xmas list as well as a workstand now !!
