Imagine you had the power to delete from history one novel, film, painting, song, album, TV series or .... so it would be as if it had never been created. Which one would you choose?

And for clarity:

Lord of the Rings I think would count as one work, but the complete works of Shakespeare wouldn't. Hopefully no one would suggest that, so nor would the complete works of Dan Brown - you have to pick one.

But without that where would The Sex Pistols be?
Actually you're correct. Without that awful "national anthem" to subvert maybe the Sex Pistols wouldn't have had the impact they had therefore changing the way the British punk scene emerged, lessening it's impact and prolonging the life of the prog rock scene for decades well into the 21st century. It doesn't bear thinking about

In between here and there
I'd be perfectly happy for Rapper's Delight to be erased from the history books. People bang on about it and it was the first big hit, but it's a bloody awful tune with plagiarised lyrics and hip-hop would have got on perfectly well without it.
But it is the only Rap tune I can mange a half decent rap to, said a hip hop Hippie to the hippie The hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop, a rock it out Bubba to the bang bang boogie, boobie to the boogie.

For the record though a lot of Rap music is sampled beats from popular and not so popular songs. James Brown being the most popular, still. Just one song sampled in 1435 songs. Always wondered if James Brown got any royalties from it.

Am I to presume you are calling me a racist just because I don't like rap music?
No. There's no need to be so sensitive. Im suggesting there are often elements of fear, ignorance or prejudice in aesthetic judgements. Perhaps you could, in keeping with the rules of the game, pick the track or album you wish to have disappeared. Or at least expand a little on the insightful and original critique you made by putting a 'c' in front of 'rap'?

Though to be fair, one of the several interesting things about this thread is trying to work out who is being sincere and who is ironically parodying their own persona.

Traditional weddings.
Why does the day have to be so long?
I have to go to one today. Posh frocks are freezing in church, lots of small talk with people I don't know. It is snowing which will wreck my hair and my posh shoes and I have to drive which, if it doesn't stop soon will be terrifying.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Wear jeans and a warm coat. It's you that's been invited, not your clothes.

@srw is precisely that snobby about footy in 'real life', if that's what you're wondering...
It's mildly amusing to see the knots into which some people tie themselves trying to support the existence of a multi-billion pound and tax-avoiding entertainment industry merely because of a historical association with the working classes.

If you want to call that amusement snobbery, go ahead.
