Vaughan Williams is a fantastic composer. Admittedly I'm less keen on his first symphony but the rest are fantastic. Hey, Beethoven's first is hardly up the the standard of the rest, jolly as it is. And VW's fantasia on Thomas Tallis is one the the most achingly beautiful pieces of music ever written if you avoid the classic fm style cheesy versions

That Thomas Tallis thing is slightly dodgy film music isn't it?

Back on topic, and inspired by this post, can I nominate the Rautavaara Cantus Arcticus for disposal. You can't make a dull bit of music interesting just by overlaying a soundtrack of gulls.

I tried to! but you won't let it go, I cannot say "don't like it as a form of music" as to me it's not a form of music in the first place, whether you believe that to be wrong is just like my own, a valid opinion.

Rap lacks melody, which is one of the three essential components of music, along with harmony and rhythm. Except that none of the components are actually essential because Plainchant, Façade, drum riffs.

I don't like and don't understand rap, but it's musical expression of a kind.

Rap is a form of spoken word poetry. Hip-hop is the music to which it is usually set. Both contain elements of rhythm and melody.

Hip-hop's also an entire political and cultural movement but that's probably a bit of a complex discussion to have if we can't even agree that it's music.
