Back on topic, and inspired by this post, can I nominate the Rautavaara Cantus Arcticus for disposal. You can't make a dull bit of music interesting just by overlaying a soundtrack of gulls.

What the birdy thing? It's brilliant and I bought his box sets of symphonies ans instrumentals after hearing it in a concert. Mind you my mrs did nearly crash the car through nodding off after I unwisely put it.on in the car

I agree. RVW represents the best of the English tradition: a radical progressive nonconformist who was a passionate national advocate and an internationalist. He's an archetype of the important tradition of being a citizen of somewhere and of everywhere at the same time.
