Good evening
I have put down a deposit on an entry level road bike. The guy in the shop was very helpful and advised me to buy the smaller 19 inch frame. I am 5 foot 9 inches and inside leg about 32 . Looking at my measurements the guide is a 21 inch bike. Not 19 inch. I sat on the larger and it felt fine. He said the smaller will be lighter, and therefore faster. I don't plan on many hills , I won't avoid them. I won't be competing , I just want to be faster than on my beloved mountain bike and cover a good few mIles. I want to be comfortable. Can anybody that is familiar please advise me I don't want to waste money . My head is saying go for the larger ??

What is the Bike/frame you are looking to buy !

19 inch is 49cm that seems a bit small for someone 5 ft 9 inch with a 32 inch inside leg imo

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Might not be helpful, but if you could get to a Decathlon store (Coventry, Nottingham?), for around £30 more you can get a much better bike - the Triban 3. The xrs650 is a very basic bike, really quite heavy and has only 14 speeds with very old fashioned bar mounted gear shifters.

I am a little taller than you, with longer legs and ride a 54cm roadbike frame with a 100mm stem

BUT as above you need to go sit on them, ride them if possible...the last thing you want is a bike that is much too big however

Have a look at Decathlon, if you feel confident to buy online Merlin (who do have a store in Lancashire) have a super entry level roadbike for £300

32" inside leg is quite long for someone who is 5'9". I would say around 22". Best to try and make sure you have sufficient Victor Sylvester ( Ballroom).
