Bottle cage and bottle, if you need to stay hydrated. Maybe not needed if only commuting.

A little under the saddle bag to keep a spare tube , money etc.

A waterproof jacket of some form comes in handy but isn't essential.

I favour the windproof-fleecy style - though not waterproof as such, you tend not to get soaked through even in heavy rain, and much more comfortable than waterproof proper

Stuff I go out with when on road bike for long rides:

Bike (obvs!)
Mini Pump
2 x Bottle (depending on distance)
Helmet
Glasses

All in saddle bag:
CO2 cannister (I'm lazy!)
Innertube
Tyre levers
£20 note
Charged Phone
mini multitool
Emergency jelly babies
At home I have various items for messing around but the essentials would be:
Track pump
wet wipes
degreaser
oil
brush (to get into parts of the chain)

It differs a bit between bikes, but for a long ride

Bike
1 x Tool Bottle
1 x Electrolytes Bottle
Helmet
Glasses
Gloves
Hydration Pack
Garmin

In Tool Bottle:
Spare tube
3 tyre levers (I can't do tyres without levers)
1 puncture repair kit (adhesive patches)
Multi-tool with chain tool
Chain quicklink
Cable ties

In hydration pack:
Water
Credit Card
£10 note
Phone
Spare gels
Mini track pump

Jersey:
Gels
Flapjack
Thin waterproof
2nd spare tube

I carry pretty much the same to commute, except only 1 innertube, and no electrolyte drink.

My wife commutes with a tool bottle, similar load out except no multi-tool and a CO2 pump with 2 x 16g bottles. Also, riding a Croix her inner tube takes up more room.

I am amazed no one else has mentioned this:

You need to get yourself an understanding wife/husband/partner (but not all three, obviously)
Depends on your life style I suppose.
