People like Howlin Wolf and Muddy Waters influenced a lot of the 60's British bands like the Rolling Stones.

To me Black Sabbath (70's stuff) are the most influential band for the music I listen to now. The down tuned sludge kind of riffs that Iommi made due an injury to his finger tips (less string tension) have been used so much through the last 40 years or so. Tool are my favourite band at the moment, but I was brought up with Sabbath and I can see much of them in the heavy riffs in Tool's music and so many other bands also. Variations of this particular riff seem quite common to me in numerous metal bands.



It's cheesey at times Sabbath, but unlike most other bands they had a sound of their own and were/are unique.

Yes they did have a sound of their own - bloody awful. I've never forgiven the bouncers at Newcastle Odeon for throwing me back into one of Black Sabbath's gigs when I was desperately trying to leave in 1974. The support act Black Oak Arkansas made the trip worthwhile.

Lol, everybody to their own. The live recordings I have heard of early Sabbath have been really poor though.
