Not quite sure how it came about, but I've finally got my VC. Yes, I'm now Vice Chairman of our Search and Rescue team.

I've enjoyed being one of the Team Managers and dabbling in a bit of team training, doing my bit to try and help the lost and/or vulnerable, but looks like it's now time to ratchet my commitment up to another level.

I doubt they're reading this, but a public thanks to those who out their faith in me and voted. I was up against some extremely worthy competition so the result is a surprising as it is pleasing.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Well done Mr Drago. Congratulations.

As well as the operational and (minor) training role I'll now be having to spend time in a strategic management role. Stuff like fundraising, expenditure, equipment, policy, emergency planning, and doubtless 101 things I've not yet thought off. Trying to think of it a doing my best to make sure the troops on a job can do their job as best as they can, and I'll still be one of those troops.

I definitely don't think I'm the man to be Chairman, and I think the new man is better suited to it than I would ever be, so im genuinely happy to be able to be in a position as VC to support and advise him.

I'm also an associate member of WarkSAR. The wife's family are over there, so when I'm on their turf visiting family I make myself available for their callouts too.

Thanks for your best wishes guys. That's not why I do it, but the sentiment is appreciated nevertheless.

Not to take anything away from your post ...my father was a member of a mountain rescue team in the alps during his youth .

Decades later we were climbing scafell pike and on the way down at about 6.00pm met two couples heading up in shirts and sandals. My dad stopped them and warned them against it as the weather was closing in and it was a fair walk. They assured us they were local and walked it all the time, kind of brushed us off. The girls seemed a little concerned.

All four died in their sleep on the hill.

I appreciate that your work is more focussed on military support but I know how valuable civilian support is, so can only imagine how important your contribution is.

Thank you! We are trained for rope work, but don't get to do too much live. Lately it's been despondent folk or dementia patients going missing, and we've had a few positive results this year.
