I have a whole day off on Friday and I don't know what to do with it.
I'm hoping the weather will still be good and I can get out on the bike - but which bike, and where to go?
I could take a train and find a trail on the 29er, or I could just go out the front door and follow my nose on the hybrid.
hmmm, decisions decisions.

Gardening? DIY? wash the car? may be go for a ride if time left over?

If nobody comes up with a sensible solution to the dilemma I may end up on the sofa watching Jeremy Kyle.

If, like you, I lived in Cumbria I would head to the Lake District, ride my bike round a bit, wouldn't care if it was the MTB or road bike, and then find a Lake District pub and get 'ratted' on real ale. A perfect day.

At this time of year the Lakes is full of old folk driving around looking out of the side windows at the views rather than in the direction they are travelling in. It's best avoided.

Haw far are you wanting to pedal, Sandra?

If you want to avoid the crowds and fancy a change from Cumbria, take your bike down to Lancaster on the train and tackle one of the Le Terrier routes round the lovely, quiet Forest of Bowland!

On the roads, head up towards Hesket Newmarket, then ride up onto Caldbeck Common and head down the steep hills to Dalton where you can pick up NCN7 back to Carlisle

There's a nice little tea room (I think it's called the Old Smithy) in Caldbeck and the drop down towards Dalston is fun
