I have two pairs of Muddyfox cycling shorts, 2 Muddyfox cycling t shirts and a Puma cycling t shirt I I quite like. Also an Under Armour golf wind shirt.

The shorts are ok but getting tight round my expanding muscular thighs :-) the t shirts are a bit tight, and consequently most of the commute is spent pulling them down, shorts up trying to hide my arse!

The wind top isn't waterproof but is breathable, unlike the waterproof jacket I had that was waterproof but very unbreathable!

So, all in all I probably need better fitting stuff!

Was about to go to Sports Direct but don't want to waste my money. Although, at this stage £40 on a pair of shorts seems painful!

Any tips on dressing on a budget?

Good advice from the above posts, my 1st pair of cycling shorts were the muddyfox shorts from sports direct, nothing wrong with them, Then I got some from decathlon which are just as good.

Mountain Warehouse do a few things too, I got some shorts and a top from there which have been fine for the sort of money I spent.

DHB isn't exciting but is seriously tough. I stock up on breathable running t shirts for cycle use at Spurt Soccer. Aldi and Lidl gear won't win any fashion awards but is good value and the quality has really racked up a notch lately.

I'm not such a fan of the Muddy Fox clothing. Flimsy, poor fit (they seem quite stingy with the sizing), and the shoes are diabolical.

And then of course there's good old eBay if you're willing to invest some time searching.

Noooooooo, I got a pair of shorts from there and they burst open ,my arse was hanging out , luckily I had only got as far as my driveway .

To be fair they were good fit and only a tenner so I stitched them back up myself and used them under my bib tights in the winter:thumbsup:

It's worth spending good money on shorts, I will happily (and have) spend £60 on a pair. Most of your comfort is there, so it's worth getting it right

However, once you have a brand you trust, you know where you are. DHB Aeron Race shorts are very good indeed at about 40 quid, and I like the brand a lot. Most of my clothing is now DHB with some Endura and the odd Louis Garneau when sales come round.

Aldi shorts are OK for commuting but before an hour is up I want to be out of them.

Jerseys and tops on the other hand don't make as big a difference, I have comfortable jerseys from as little as £15. DHB have launched a new Active range which are getting down close to Aldi prices! Gonna pick a couple up for commuting/casual use.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Decathlon basic shorts are fine for commute riding but on longer rides of a couple of hours or more i found i needed a better pad and found the sculptured pads in their higher range pads to thick and caused chaffing so i am steadily stocking up on wiggles dhb aeron shorts .

Commuting is all I'm good for just now.

Got bib shorts and bib leggings, as well as a warm top.

Oh, and some excellent value clear and orange glasses!
