If you really do mean toe clips, not clipless pedals (where a cleat on the sole of the shoe engages with a special pedal body), any should fit.

It might be worth looking at mini toe clips as an alternative to the normal variety with straps - they are effective and a lot easier to get in/out of.

Hello Scott,

You have quite a choice, depending on what you use the bike for and your budget. The terminology has changed a bit as new types of foot restraint have been introduced.

The oldest type consists of a metal cage which curls up over the toes from the front of the pedal and into which straps are threaded across the foot; these were known as toe clips, but since the introduction of the pedal and cleat system, they are sometimes referred to as toe straps. As you need to tighten and loosen the straps when you stop and start, they are best suited to longer rides and need proper, stiff soled shoes to get the best out of them.

Half clips just consist of a metal cage, similar to the above, but without the strap: they are for more "informal" riding and allow you to cycle in any sort of shoe, ideal for use around town where you will often be stopping and starting.

Pedal straps are an ingenious alternative made from recycled seat belts, like very wide toe straps. Because of their width they don't need a cage. Like half clips they don't need special shoes and ideal for riding in traffic because they are easy to get in and out of.

The most recent development in foot restraints is the so-called "click" or "clip in" pedal, which involve special pedals and shoes, which clip together via a cleat which is screwed to the shoe. There are two varieties of these: the smaller two-bolt fixing which you will find on mountain and hybrid bikes and the three-bolt fixing found on road bikes.

You will find examples of the first three types on this page, the two types of clip in pedals on this one, the cleats here and finally shoes.

The first thing to decide is what sort of riding are you doing: are you a sporting or a casual rider? If the former then the original toe clips or the latest clip in systems are more suitable; if the latter then half clips or straps are ideal.

Best regards,

Jim.
