Hi, I was wondering what tyres people would recommend for me. I'll be riding a Boardman Hybrid Team through Birmingham, about 16 miles a day starting in a month or so, going all through winter and out the other side! Tyres I've been looking (doesn't have to be any of these) at are: Schwalbe Marathons, Marathon plus, Specialized All condition Armadillo, Conti Gatorskin ultras. I want something grippy on the straight and in the corners (I've heard a few reports of the MP+s' being a little unsettling in the corners), something that has good puncture resilience and something that is fast and comfortable! Also a tyre that I'll be able to go out on and have a hack at the weekend. Width 28-35 What would you say?
Many thanks
Adam

Thanks for that. Size should read 700x28 - 700x35. I'm really looking for something a bit slicker though, shouldn't imagine I'll be off road very much at all - maybe the very occasional towpath or two but nothing heavy, 99% of my time on the roads.

I plan to keep buying M+, maybe the M+ Tour as i ride on trails as much as roads. Im a heavy rider and the extra pressure on the floor seems to help push glass through tyres quite well

Im using 700x38 M+ on my hybrid and 26*2.00 M+ Tour on my crappy mtb. I remember it took a little while to get confidence cornering on the M+, possibly because they have such a rigid ride to them and dont deform much at all. They run really well and puncture very very rarely, but theyre heavy and very hard, for me its worth it to not be repairing punctures all the time, but others would disagree

Schwalbe marathons on my bso. No punctures or issues with them. Comfortable and good cornering.
Size 700 x 35c - next time i will go 32c

Schwalbe Marathon Racer 700x30c seem to be a good mix to be.
Put them on my boardman cx a few weeks back to replace the stock tyres and there nice

I'm using standard Marathon's in 700x35 and have found them to be good. Sure footed on the road and in most of the off road conditions I've tried (including on grass) and have had no issues with comfort or rolling resistance.

They also (keeps voice down so as not to jinx it:secret:.) haven't punctured in over 2600 miles so far.

I use Marathon + 700x25s and they're good, only issue is they're a tad on the heavy side. The standard Marathon tyre is just as puncture resistant but a lot lighter so I'd recommend that.

Most punctures are on the rear, so i run M+ on rear and a mid-range puncture resistant tyre on the front.

Marathon+ for me running 32s front and rear. The grip is fine, even in the rain. The only times I have felt a loss of grip was on a bridle path made of fine grit and dust and I ended up with what felt like 4 wheel steering with both wheels skidding in every direction.

I've only had one puncture and that was because I purchased a track pump at the same time and overinflated the tyre and got pinch puncture. :shy:

Thanks for the replies people, the Marathons and the Marathon racers both sound like solid choices. Anyone had experiance of the racers during winter?
Thanks again

I've been riding Duranos (25) for the past few months , seem decent enought, but don't hold out much hope for their grippiness in the wet.

Gatorskins were good for me. Rear lasted nearly 18 months, probably 2500 miles or so. Catastrophic failure in the end, but I could have kept a better eye on it. Only one fall in the wet on those.
