tyres that last two years soud interesting, more about mileage and riding style I'd have thought

plenty like gators plenty don'

lots of new tyres look tough and invulnerable when they're new, it's six months later that you judge them, gators cut up amazingly when I got them new with the bike

Yeah...Greentyre slid all over the place...It was scary at times...Needs bedding in methinx.Gawd the A12 is an awful road.Pinch points and boy racers/police cars for fun.

Even had 4 idiots in their mums fiesta shouting something at me at Redbridge last night.

mugs.I COULDNT HEAR YOU.

Well my 2 new Gators turned up yesterday, so I going to give these a good review over time.
I have been on Bontrager Race X Lite, and they are not up to th job, back tyre has only done 1800 and there is a split already ....

I tried an Armadillo tyre last winter, I took it off after only a few days as it felt like I was riding thru treacle.

I'm another one for riding slightly wider slicks, kept up to pressure, all year round.

Well then you're sorted!

I guess the 'dillos had more drag than I was used to.

Yes and so has that Greentyre...I don't suppose it's surprising really...I also think I was struggling with fitness and so the going got tough.I thought there was something wrong and there possibly was but I seemed to have recovered back to my old self although nothing like pre 1996.

The thing I find with cycle commuting is that you get good days and bad days no matter what you're riding.
Unless I do a couple of rides longer than my average commute on top of my usual journies I find my fitness will vary from week to week.

Glad you're feeling fitter tho!

I'm thinking of going from 700x32 to 700x28 next time I change my tyres. I'm conflicted at the moment between Marathons (which I currently have in 32s) and trying the contiental ultra gatorskins. Is it subjective which are better or will one of them genuinely make me "go faster".

Well I went through a spell where I thought I wouldn't be able to do a 100 miler...perhaps it is possible now.

Gators are a nice fast tyre with (IMHO) good resistance to the nefarious work of Comrade Deflator. Not quite as grippy as one might like on wet roads, which may well be a factor living where you do.

Conti GP 4 Seasons. Available in 23mm to 28mm.

Faster, grippier and more puncture resistant than Gatorskins, but 50% more expensive.
