I think my father's most embarrassing car was a gold Hillman Hunter

Actually, I quite liked the design. It's just how knackered and untidy it was.

He had a Renault 4 which I remember being pretty bad; it had a peculiar gear change thing on the dashboard that used to fascinate me. There was also a Vauxhall Ventora with massive vinyl bench seats that wasn't much better.

My Dad had so many crap cars I wouldn't know where to start.

I was 12 years old before I realised that other people's cars started with a key and not by a small person pushing them.

My dad bought my mum a really horrible old mini for their wedding anniversary once. It was dark blue and an old G reg. It was in the 70s. My dad used to have a triumph toledo that used to squeek alarmingly. By far the worst was his ford cortina which burst into flames on the motorway. It was quite a good car until it did that.

Fiat 126. It was a second car, fortunately he sold it and bought Fiat 500 instead, far more cool.

When I was about seven I asked my mum what happens to cars when they are old and worn out and keep breaking down. She replied: 'Someone sells them to your dad...'
Anyway, my dad had several old bangers, with the circa-1961 Morris Traveller perhaps being the shoddiest.
These days he has a top of the range Mobility Scooter, which is probably more powerful than the old Morris.

My dad only had one car and that was before I was born. He bought it second hand, it broke down on its third outing and that was it, no car. I walked an awful long way as a child!

This was the "worst" - it wasn't bad at all apart from the sills rotting away every two winters or so.

I remember this car as I had the job of counting out an enormous bundle of cash to pay for it (£180 IIRC).

(we had 10s and £1 notes in those days!)

Having always bought second hand, my Dad was delighted when a promotion came with a brand new company car: a Rover 2600.

I think the first bit fell off within the first week, and from that point on it was like autumn leaves. It was comfortable, it was smooth, it was quiet...but it was so shoddily made it beggared belief. And this was supposedly one of British Leyland's better cars.
