Arch - ever the sensible one. Thanks, a good reminder. I suppose, we will need to start buying them in the next few weeks.

Sensible, yeah, that's me. If I was really clever, I'd do what I always mean to, and make a list throughout the year of suitable things I fancy, because I know I think of stuff, and then forget, and remember it again in February.

I always ask them as well - makes sense to get something they want, instead of something random that might not be wanted. Mum I can usually find nice things for, my sister will have some specific idea, and my brother in law is an enigma - I hope there's something he wants, as I'm never sure I'm getting it right.

Of course, even with a guide to main present, I like to find some extra 'surprises', so I make a rod for my own back!

my family are a nightmare to shop for

brother, all he really wants are things for his model railway, however he builds everything from bits which you can only really order from the society he's the secretary for - so i couldn't order anything without him knowing and as we do different railways, he'd know its not for me.

Dad - never knows what he wants, also never knows what mum wants

mum - never knows what she wants and never knows what dad wants

sister in law - never really know what she wants, usually just get her a cuddly eeyore for the collection

wife - she never knows what she wants

me - I've got a very long list complete with price, where to get it from, prioritised in need, want, would like that no one seems to take notice of.

1 Socks. [M+S]
2 Underwear [M+S].
3 Shirt.[M+S]
4 Tie.[Tie Rack]
5 Book.[WH Smith]
6 Chocolate [Thorntons]
7 CD [from daughter, bought from Amazon because she's organised]
8 DVD [from son, bought at HMV at last minute, or a game he's always wanted]....

+ lots of really good things from my wife which I would never have thought of because she's brilliant at finding things but can wander round shops for hours 'just looking'!

8 year old: i<Anything> - she has know idea what they do but the power of marketing has convinced her they are 'essential'! My reply is "aye, right"

14 year old: road bike, track bike, clothes <Jack and Wills>, money. Unlikely to happen, might get cycling accessories but not a bike!

My boys are all grown up now so it's less of a problem and not so expensive. The only must have I'm aware of for our house is a Garmin 605 or 705......................I've started muttering about it.
