Now Man Utd have been humiliated and are on the slide what are all the southerners going to do for a football team now?

My theory is that maybe they will start following Man City on the same basis that they convinced themselves they had some allegiance to Man U i.e. Their Great Grandad once went to Manchester while he trained for his National Service so I've supported Man U ever since.

They might start supporting their local teams.

They could start following Barca. The weather and food are better, and the flights are cheaper than the rail fair to Manchester.

Just a thought.

Ponteland United.... £2.50 for a pitch side spot on the railing but you have to watch you don't get cut by the rust spalling off.... sometimes it doesn't even rain.

Naturally they will have always supported City. Fickle allegiances are made to be rewritten.

Oddly, and as a neutral, I'm not sure I like the 'buy a team' approach taken by Man City. Fair game, all's fair etc etc (and do I really care about about football?) but I do wonder how the city faithful will feel. Sure, they'll be rejoicing in beating the red scum, how it happens is irrelevant compared to 'being there', but could the success feel hollow somehow to some?

Follow a proper sport? Not full of overpaid tossers who get payed for playing a GAME?

Football is a proper sport once you get out of the Premiership , not the same over paid diving tossers you get in the premiership . Last season we played Man u in the cup and we worked out you could buy our entire squad that played that night for 2 weeks of Rooneys wage !!!

You could say "Guys like Cadel, Cancellara, the Schlecks, and Cavendish are making anywhere between €1M – €3M" just for riding a bike

I love my footy just as much as my cycling , sadly its a fact footy is more popular in this country or you would have "ride of the Day" on a sat night and not "Match of the day" but i for one would love to see more then premiership on it, sadly if your not in that top flight you don't exist in the media.

We supported the football team our son in played for every week, putting nets/flags up/down and collecting the raffle money at home games and travelling in a slow convoy to away games from the time he was 11 until it folded when they were 18 and they all left school. Standing in mud, freezing cold, in gale force winds with driving rain/ sleet... flask of coffee and sandwiches at half time ...

Wouldn't have missed it for the world and the friendships formed then between the lads and the parents will last a lifetime.

Don't get that team spirit by buying in the best in the world.... to the detriment of British football, and any other sport you care to mention. No opportunities for the national teams to develop and be truly representative.

[By the way if you know any talent scouts he's a brilliant goalie... but then we would say that!]
