Seemed to waste it on a BBQ so I went out and did my first imperial century in three years disguised as an over distance 150km DIY Audax. 106 miles in eight hours of pedal time. Selby - Hull - Beverley - Driffield - Garrowby Hill - York - Selby

The ride wasn't without incident.

One snake bite puncture on the York Selby cycle route nine miles from the end of the ride.

The replacement tube exploded and shredded itself before I had chance to refit the wheel. The tyre wall was separated from the bead for three inches by the explosion.

The second spare tube turned out to be for a 26" wheel and I was on a 700c wheeled bike.

I had some duct tape wrapped around my bike pump body and I fashioned a tyre bood from the tape. I wrestled the undersized tube into place and gingerly completed the last nine miles of the ride.

Five miles from the end I had an awful feeling that I hadn't seen my car ignition key in the external pocket of the pannier. A search of the pannier confirmed my worst fears. I conjured up all sorts of scenarios when I was repairing the puncture involving the key ending up in the grass on the York Selby cycle route.

I decided to press on as going back to search would be a futile exercise.

I got back to my car to find the ignition key where I left it. Sticking out from the lock on the driver's door.

The incidents didn't detract from the enjoyment of the ride and there was a marked performance improvement on the long drags. Weight loss is probably the biggest contributor to my improved hill climbing.

I'm now browner than a brown thing or, rather, bits of me are.

106 miles in eight hours WoW well done and in this heat as well

Sounds great.....I know some of that route - my family come from Cherry Burton and it's great cycling round there. I guess you've well and truly broken in the Woodrup. Not long till the end of term and your tour...^_^

I leave on Thursday for my LEJOGLE trip which will take me the whole of June. Can't wait and I'm hoping the weather will be kind.

I chose to take my Dave Yates for the outing yesterday. You are correct about the cycling out by Cherry Burton. It was the second consecutive weekend that I've spent out there with a third ride due in two weeks' time.

The Woodrup is a couple of miles per hour slower which makes a big difference to the overall time out. I've still got a few 100km rides pencilled in for the Woodrup before the tour.

You'll enjoy LEJOGLE. You'll be riding at slightly faster pace than me on my End to Ends which took a total of five weeks but I probably weighed the same as you plus your bike plus luggage with enough lard left over to supply a chip shop.

It's great cycling out Cherry Burton way and the rolling terrain is not as challenging as it used to be now that I'm a bit lighter. I took my Dave Yates Randonneur out for the ride yesterday as I wanted to get round the DIY 150km audax comfortably within the 15km/hr lower speed limit to assess the viability of doing a 200km permanent in the area - I could have got away with 10km/hr on this perm but that would have proved anything. I could just make the cut with the Woodrup but there'd be no room to faff and take things easy. The Woodrup demands high cadence pedalling to raise the saddle time average to give ample time at the cafes and it's benefited my cycling fitness no end.

I've a few more 100km DIY audaxes pencilled in for the Woodrup before the tour and there's signs of the hub getting quieter in the lower ratios.

You'll enjoy LEJOG and JOGLE. You'll be a tad faster than I was but there again I weighed as much as you, your bike, your luggage and still had enough lard left over to supply a chip ship. I look forward to your journey accounts.

The ENW wind kept things cool. Didn't stop me from getting browned off.

It has been quite cold up until a few days ago and and I don't want to appear picky but it's actually just a tad too warm really...

I ignored the club ride today, as I often do these days, and got out at eight in the morning to ride to the Café, this meant I got the first half of my ride done whilst it was still relatively cool, I just had the ride home to do when the day had warmed up.

Myself and Bromptonfb did a 200km Audax route up to Glasson Docks and back on saturday
Didn't find it too hot cycling, only really felt the heat when you stopped.
Enjoyed it that much that we're doing it again this weekend and extending it up past Lancaster
Hopefully won't have to contend with a headwind all the way home next time
