It's a bit more complicated than that...
Most companies these days rely on the internet, without quite realising how embedded the technology is in their operations - back office as well as customer-facing. Like electricity and clean water, it's just there. But my suspicion is that it's rather less resilient.

It would almost be like the old days again. At least every twat wouldn't be staring at their phones all day. They might be able to concentrate more on other things.

It's very resilient. It was designed by DARPA to survive war, and in the 60s "war" was preceded by "global thermo nuclear"***.

***unlike now, where it's preceded by "limited thermo-nuclear"
Yes, but it was designed as a closed means of communication among small numbers of sites all operating to military standards of security and expertise. It was then expanded to being a closed means of communication among relatively small numbers of sites all operating academic standards of expertise and goodwill. It is now an open means of communication among enormous numbers of sites, individual computers and kettles mostly operating to no standards of expertise or security whatsoever. A lot of its vulnerabilities have been tested regularly, and it's been found wanting in various unexpected ways. I wouldn't be surprised to see, one day, a much more serious issue.
