What would you get?

Hi Folks I am sure this is an age old question that has no right or wrong answer with answers based on personal opinion but I am going to ask it anyway,

I would like to purchase a new road bike at the end of the winter and have a budget of a maximum of £1400.00 what should I look at?

To make it a little easier I am currently riding a Reynolds 531c steel frame with original Shimano 105 groupset (Circa early 1990's) this will be kept as a winter/ wet weather bike. I am currently riding up to 60 miles but looking to push this much higher towards the end of the winter. I am not looking to race but more to enjoy riding with friends on something that comes out on dry days and high days. I think I would like a full carbon frame but I am fully open to suggestions.

What would you suggest for the budget and why? Thanks in advance for your help and guidance.

Loads of great stuff out there. Specialized roubaix elite is a lovely bike. I bought a felt z6 for £1100 and loved it except for the horrid tiagra (maybe just me, but I didn't get on with it). I've since put ultegra all through it.

I'd wait until you're closer to buying. There will be loads of different deals in 5 months times and you'd have changed your mind countless times too. But if you need some inspiration, the buying direct from the manufacturer model will always get you the most bang for your buck. Have a look at Ribble, Planet X and possibly Canyon at that price range. Infact, I'd recommend looking at Canyon and then increasing your budget!

I'm currently riding two CF bikes - a Ribble and a Dolan.

The Dolan has a touch less class but is lighter and quicker. It is also smoother on light roads but a lot harsher when the going does cut up. The Gran Fondo comfortably handles whatever you throw at it.

I wouldn't start to pick between steel, alloy or CF - choose CF and then start looking at the differences within the genre.

I think for that budget I'd be looking at either having a steel frame built, or buying a nice steel frame off the shelf from a decent manufacturer, and then building the bike up.

Dolan Ares SL is a lovely bike and the service from all at Dolan is superb
