If there are 10 raffle tickets and you have bought just one, you have a one in 10 chance of winning. So 10-1 means one in 10 chance, no?

What are the chances of winning in a coin flip (heads or tails) and what are the odds of winning in a coin flip?

In statistics-speak, odds of 1 in 10 mean a risk of 1 in 11.

But, on the basis that words mean what people use them to mean not what people who know the original definition think they ought to mean, I don't agree with @Tim Hall. I reckon "ten to one it's worth less than a quid" means I am so confident it is indeed worth less that I am willing to risk ten of my own money in the expectation of winning only one.

Evens ( Coin flip ) 1 in 2 chance of winning
2/1 1 in 3 chance of winning
3/1 1 in 4 chance of winning
4/1 1 in 5 chance of winning
ETC

If you had 10 horses of equal ability in a race and you gave odds of 10/1 on each horse you could put £1000 on each horse costing £10000 and collect £11000 no matter what horse won.

I would have told them to follow me then take them on a wild goose chase .yes, really. If I had time on.my hands I would do exqcexa that.

A long time ago some guys were trying to sell me jewellery from a car. I told them I needed to get money out and they conveniently were parked next to an ATM. I told them I needed to go to a specific bank (which just happened to me near where I needed to go - I actually needed public transport to get to my destination) .

Instead, I got these two guys to give me a lift instead to where I needed to get to. I us d those lying scumbags and they weren't happy.

Well, I like to try and see the best in people. Also, I spent a lot of time evaluating if there was any truth to the story. Seems I made the right decision anyway.
Don' fall for the ones at motorway service stations. I was approached by a young lady crying she was nearly out of petrol and needed to get home with her child, who IIRC was sitting in the seat.
I gave her a tenner, meh, it's good karma hopefully.

Several years later, possibly the same service station....i was approached by....you can guess the rest.
She got short shrift.

How about the chances of 1 in 10 is the same as a probability of 1 in 11?

In other words, if I roll a fair dice (or die as there is only one) I have a one in six chance of getting a six. If I roll the dice six times I could expect to get a six once and a number other than six five times. So the probability is one to five.

The odds are whatever the parties conducting the bet agree on.

A father of my son's friend rang me about 10 years ago, he was recently arrived in the UK Honduran, I'd never met him. To cut a long winded conversation short, he needed £400 to avoid eviction having been scammed by a job agency...so he said..... I said I'd ring him back. I talked it over with MrsF, we thought it 90% a scam but what if it wasn't? She left it up to me and I thought of his voice in that conversation and went with my instinct.

It was all true, he paid me back the next month and we've become firm friends.:okay:

in gran canaria around 2001 or 2002, a very respectable looking and sounding english couple had their cash card swallowed by the cash machine, 50 euro would see them good, tears and everything, a young couple early 20's gave them the money, couple of days later same couple unbelievably they lost another card in another cash machine, plenty of people offering to help until I stepped forward like a true hero and told everyone that I would give this couple 100 euros and there was no need for anyone to offer help, believe it or not he got a little aggressive with me, when I told I seen them the other night, words were exchange not pleasent as one would expect from such a generous offer, although I suppose the other offer of his head becoming part of the cash machine may of caused the conversation to take a dip.

Where you wearing a cape in this dream? Did you wake up before the violence ensued? And if you were dressed as a superhero what do you call yourself?
