If they want to do that, they have to go on a hike first - which we have done. Put them in the minibus, dropped them off 4 miles from the chippy, told them there's 27 portions of chips on order, and the chippy closes at 9.

We used to do that, everyone blindfolded in the back of the mini bus, then dumped with a map and compass in the middle of nowhere and told to get back home.
Great fun, would be totally useless today with instant maps on your phone.

Unlabelled tins was normal as a child, a Dad used to get them from the staff shop! And normally remembered what was in them, but occasionally the wrong tin would be selected and it would be tinned rice rather than beans or condensed milk....

We still do it, we just make sure everyone has handed their phone in. We ring the phones, and anyone whose phone rings doesn't get chips

We've got condensed milk, and evapourated milk there...I don't think they'll know what it is, or what to do with it.......

brings back memories of a bunch of teenagers on an expedition in Arran.... most of them trudging along a single track road in the rain.... and a few of us deciding to use our initiative and sneak into a pub, then catch a bus to the rendezvous... watching out the bus windows to see if we could see any walkers, and sitting on the bus floor until we got past....
