I bought a valve amplifier for my stereo recently from a chap in Hong Kong. (I don't normally like buying expensive stuff from so far away, but never mind.) He emailed me yesterday with a tracking number and the UPS website, so I thought I'd see where it was.

Anyone else baffled by the fact that it's got as far as Nottingham, then gone to Dubai and Cologne before arriving back at Nottingham 22 hours later?;)

At a quick glance it looks like the dates/times are not in order....

The times are local time at wherever the parcel is. I'm not bothered enough to check them all, but I assume they're roughly chronological.

I also think some of the dates are in american format (MM/DD/YYY) and some are UK (DD/MM/YYYY). Unless that package was scanned sometime next month ;)

They're all US format dates, which threw me at first, I admit. But there's no getting away from the fact that it was 100 miles away yesterday and then it went to Germany and the middle east. I'm still baffled.

So the air transport industry is as disorganised and wasteful as the UK road haulage industry with hundreds of trucks charging around empty on spurious journeys? Are you surprised?

I may have got this wrong, but

tells me that it's in transit, but not at East Midlands - in other words the documentation has been sent, but the goods are still on their way from Hong Kong to Dubai.

Thats what I was going to say it looks like the paperwork had arrived from HK but the actual package was still in transit so it should be with you soon RT.

It's an Audioromy 6550. I took a bit of a gamble buying it, but my guitar amp was made in China and is excellent, so I thought this would be worth a go. Have you seen the price of valve amps in this country?

It's scanned as "Arrival" at East Midlands airport this morning. Looks like Dell was right.

Yup, EMA is the hub for DHL.
