What's happened to my banana?

We bought some bananas from our local supermarket a few days ago. We keep them on a banana stand, next to the fruit bowl.
Over the past couple of nights, we've lost three bananas to the condition shown in the photo.

What can it be?

Any ideas, please, before we go, err, bananas!!

I would go along with the mouse idea, except that there is no other evidence at all.

We have had mice in the past: you can hear them scuttling about; you see "little messages" in the corner by the skirting board and so on. There are no tell-tale signs such as these. Next to the bananas is a bowl of apples, which is untouched. Surely the little chappies would favour apples, with thin skins and easy access, over bananas with thick skins and acrobatic access.

I really, really don't like the idea of banana spiders!!

Could be wasps, though they'd need a soft spot in the skin to start eating it.

Also known as the "Wood Spider" and "Golden Orb Spider" very poisonous and can eat birds!!!

I don't know if they use banana's for hatching their offspring (but I'd doubt it) or if they just live/hunt amongst banana crops????

Put the bananas in a sealed plastic bag overnight and see what you have in the morning!
