If googlemaps is to be belived, upon viewing our country from afar, our great capital all of a sudden changes to Barnet. Checking the image, it appears that other countries keep their capitals in-tact (Spain keeps Madrid, Holland keeps Amsterdam and France keeps Paris) whilst our London mysteriously reverts to a lesser-known borough!

Even China keeps Beijing as its capital, and they had a big old tussle with Google. Has England offended them more than China in some unknown way??

I see they have a Londonderry and a Derry in N.I.

Isn't that the current diplomatic name for the place, Londonderry/Derry? (if you look, there is a / between them) I seem to remember they were recently in the running for some event, and that was the name used.

Barnet,
To give Barnet it's proper name, it is Chipping Barnet. The market is mentioned in the Magna Carter. As for being the capital of England, well, we are still in Hertfordshire, just.

Good spot - I didn't notice they'd lost theirs too. However, Belgium being very small at that level of zoom means they probably can use the excuse that they couldn't fit it in. Which I don't really think is the case for London.

Zooming out one level from that view shows London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester - some better known places in England!

Or Stroke city as its called. Derry "stroke" LondonDerry.. which is the "acceptable" BBC version of the name
Also known as the Maiden City, or as announced on the way to Derry - welcome to "the Walled City".
The tune to Danny Boy is "the Derry Air" .. which of course leads to many jokes...
While "I wish I was back home in Derry" was penned by Bobby Sands while imprisoned in H Block.
Once world famous for Shirt making - now I think this is one of the last establishments - http://www.smythandgibson.com As most manufacturing has gone recently its towards the high end of the market.
